D6 Root Rake

Gough Engineering Rotorua recently designed and built a Root Rake at the request of customer Phil Rouse Ltd. Phil's requirements were for bundling, containing and sifting more efficiently than his old rake.

Gough Engineering and Phil came up with the semi U-shape, which does the containing, and the large curved-shaped tynes with weld-on tip adaptors and replaceable penetration tips, doing the bundling. The tyne gaps are wider than normal to allow for the sifting.

Phil uses it on a Cat D6H in his forest land back to farm land conversion operations.

The rake sweeps up after two Cat 330s, with picks fitted, have plucked the stumps out of the ground. The stumps are pushed into heaps with as little dirt as possible for drying out and burning off later.

The rake is four-metres wide with nine tynes manufactured out of 50mm wear alloy 400. Phil has told us the rake is doing the job asked with more productivity and efficiency than the old one.
