Excavator COPS Cabs
Cabin Operator Protective Structures
Cabs for excavators have been designed to comply with the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and HSE Regulations 1995 including the approval Code of Practice for Operator Protective Structures on Self-propelled Mobile Mechanical Plant which had a compliant date of 31 December 2000.
Gough Engineering specializes in manufacture and installation of COPS Cabs for Caterpillar Excavators building a number of styles including riser base cabs for Forestry application. Design features include solid roof plate to provide protection from falling objects and front Grills. The design of the frames preserve the machine functionality, operator vision and provide excellent operator protection, using world leading Finite Element Analysis methods. Cabs are fitted with the minimum alteration to your machine's bodywork. Installation often doesn't require the operators cab to be moved and keeps the overall height of the machine to a minimum.
Installation of COPS Manufactured by Gough Engineering can be carried out by Gough's staff at any of our workshops.

The compliance of the custom designed COPS with the NZ Approved Code of Practice is verified by a combination of computer analysis and analytical methods. Using the ANSYS® engineering analysis software, the laboratory tests as specified by ISO3471 and ISO3449 are simulated. These tests specify the minimum requirements for strength and energy absorption of the protective frame in case of tipping or rolling, as well as for the roof's resistance to penetration by falling objects. These test conditions typically result in the material being loaded beyond its yield point and significant plastic deformations can occur. As a consequence, the strain becomes the main criterion for failure rather than the stress.
