Gough Engineering specializes in fabrication of custom designed screw conveyors principally using 219mm and 273mm Pipe. Screw Conveyors are one of the oldest and simplest devices used for the movement of bulk materials. Being simple and robust in design and easily maintained, they provide a low cost, versatile conveying capability for many bulk solids handling applications
Screw conveyors are compact and easily adapted to congested locations. The advantages of using a screw conveyor to move materials are that being totally enclosed leakage and waste is almost nil and material can be moved easily both horizontally and vertically. They can be used as a mixer or agitator, to mix and blend dry or wet ingredients. Screw conveyors are driven by electric motors through a reduction box to achieve the desired speed. The power required is determined by knowing the working angle of the screw, material and the discharge rate.
Flights can be supplied as Right hand or Left hand, standing at the end, if the flight tails off to the right, then it is right-hand flighting. If the flight tails off to the left, then it is left-hand flighting. If wear is a problem the flight face can be hard-surfaced with a weld-on hard-surfacing material. Features include traps that allow the housed to be cleaned, lifting points to easy handling and swivel joints compensate for alignment problems. Shafts are fitted with gland seals that can be adjusted or replaced and reduction box's include thrust bearings.
